How much are classes?

What do I need to bring to my first class?
Yourself, paper and pen. The majority of students also bring a small tape recorder to assist in their weekly practice.
 
Do I need to bring the instrument to class?
Instruments are provided for students during the class session. You may bring your own if you wish.
 
Do I need instrument at home?
Yes, we always recommend our students practice well.
 
Can I rent instruments?
Yes you can and we can arrange it for you.
 
Where can I rent instruments if they are not available in the school?
House of Raga rents instruments by the month.
 
Do I need previous musical experience?
No - you can be an absolute beginner, young or old.
 
How old does a child have to be before they can start music classes at the school?
We recommend children be at least 5 years of age prior to beginning music classes. We suggest that if you wish your child to become interested in music from an early age, you may sign them up for other musical classes with an open concept which involves some directed instruction.
 
What if I have studied music before?
We suggest that you come and watch a class and get assessed by one of our instructors. There are many forms of musical instruction and many ways of teaching.
 
What will I learn in the beginning class?
Fundamental study of the Indian classical music. This will include its history in the North Indian traditions, the spoken language (oral tradition), learning basic strokes and foundation compositions.
 
How long do I have to study?
Studying music is a lifelong commitment. Even our instructors continue to learn.
 
Who teaches the music classes?
Neeraj Prem, the director of the school, is the lead instructor and various musicians for other subjects.
 
How long does it take to become a musician?
This is a very common question with many variables. How long does it take to become an actor?
 
Once I am a student at the school do I need to register for classes for the next session?
No. Once you are a student we register you for the next session automatically. If you are unable to attend the next session, please let the office know or send an E-Mail to the school. The next session will be held at the same time as your beginner class unless specified by the instructor.
