The Raga Music School is based on the Ustad Vilayat Khan Gharana (school) of Hindustani music system. The school emphasizes not only on the technical expertise, but also gives the pupil the traditional, cultural and mythological background of Indian connection to the music.

Thousands of years old music and culture is difficult to describe in a few months' courses. So the school has fashioned each course in a way that the students get to recognize and understand not only the music but also the culture and tradition of India. As the modern historical and cultural research has shown that the Indian music has developed within a very complex interaction between people of different races and cultures, it appears that the ethnic diversity of present day India has been there from the earliest of times.

The Raga Music School is privileged to have the support of the great and respected musicians and institutions not only from Canada but also from India as the Raga Music School is affiliated with the Ustad Vilayat Khan Music Foundation in New Delhi. The blessings and support of Ustad Shujaat Khan and Ustad Vilayat Khan is an honor for the Raga Music School to have. It is this collaboration which distinguishes the Raga Music School from rest of the crowd.

With the intention of producing high standards in music for the students and the supporters of the Raga Music School, we are intent to create yearly workshops and concerts. These workshops will bring the students closer to the great Ustads and Pandits from who they will not only be learning music but also will learn about their life style and the subtleties of their musical world.

The Raga Music School also encourages the students in organizing and performing in the concerts and workshops. It is our belief that organizing is a big part of learning any kind of art form. Students will be part of the organizing team and also be performing. This will develop the confidence in the students as they will experience the backstage activates first hand.

The Raga Music School has a vast library of books, audio and video material. This library is specifically for the students of the school and who ever desires to gather knowledge about Indian Classical Music. Our school firmly believes that listening and watching is a big part of learning any art form.

The Raga Music School strives to produce excellent results which would not only make the students proud but also the richly diverse and culturally motivated community of Canada. The school caters to students throughout Ontario, especially Toronto, Brampton, Hamilton and Scarborough.
